THN ranks Aeros jersey #13 in the AHL

While we're all waiting to pounce on the AHL schedule at 3:00 p.m. today, here's something to chew on.

I can tell you, my ranking wouldn't look much like that, though I'd still probably put the bomber at the middle of the pack. I've never been too fond of it. (Oh, simmer down. I do like the away darks.)

And I do like Milwaukee and San Antonio's sweaters, so they'd still be near the top for me. In fact, SA might be my favorite, as painful as that is to admit.

But Chicago's WAY too high. The only thing good about their sweater is the creepy green eyes on the wolf. And Springfield? Are you kidding me? Please.

What do you think?

Note that of the worst quartile, nearly all are in the Northeast. I also think the away green is VERY distinctive. Still think the best ever were the Springfield Indians, before the PC police came in.

I will not criticize this work overall since I am sure it took a lot of time and effort. I mean, we can't even get some photos narrowed down to have a kick-ass "Best-Fred-Photo-Ever" contest.

Without further digression, I realize that a lot of hard work went into this.

Now, having said that, there are four in the top 10 of this list that are quite puzzling in my opinion. And this opinion is based on what I have seen in person and based on how much some of these are made fun of by fans and media personnel of other AHL teams.

Actually, now that I look at the list, there are four jerseys ahead of the Aeros on the list that are absolute crap. But, to be fair, there are a few BEHIND the Aeros on the list that I would put ahead.

The four crappy ones in my opinion are Rochester (WAY to effing plain), Springfield (just a very awkward logo), Norfolk (come one, it looks like a boat is shooting biscuits and Peoria (colors are good, but there is a CARTOON on the jersey).

As for the fifth, while personally I like the Admirals colors, that logo takes too much crap in my opinion to be ranked No. 1. It looks cartoonish for starters, and it stirs up too many memories of the internet video the Admirals put out when they introduced the new logo and jersey a few years ago. That PR stunt in and of itself nearly trumps how bad the Aeros looked in 2004 when the introduced their infamous clip art logo.

Like Heather, I think the Aeros are in the middle of the pack, but certainly closer to 10 than 20.

Cartoon Network Skeleton for #1? That alone should tell you the rest of the poll is complete crap. And what's with the green comment? The greens are better but they talk like the are gone or something.

How many photo's of Fred do you have?

You'll just have to wait and see, won't you?!

Woo! Ads are first! wait... how?

Plus how come some are the home jerseys, some away and some alternate? Why not be consistent.

How is Peoria 9th and Rockford 25th? They claim Rockford's is bad because it copies the parent team; well, thats what Peoria does too! (Among others that get praise/hate arbitrarily)

I actually like Norfolk's white jersey (ditto Portland), but the Moose has to take best jersey. If nothing else, because of the awesome number font!

Who on earth would put the Dead Pirates as #1? A sweater based on crass commercialism? And Rochester #2???

Monitoba and Springfield get my top rankings. The Aeros could improve by making the logo a tad bigger and re-introducing some blue (probably on the logo like it used to be), but are definitely in the top quartile.

Judging based on logo only, or color?
Being really partial to the 'royals' - I go for the Manchester Lion on royal purple, and The Peoria Rivermen on brilliant royal blue, both with black.
I do like the 'bull on the rampage' on black (natch... Los Toros) ;-)
Aeros Green away has it way over the white home, white alternate and beige third or special jerseys for me, even if it's hard to amass those many names with numbers! ;-)

Do bring on those Trask pix.....I have quite a few favorites ;-) ;-) there... oh, yes, yes, indeed!

I disagree with the rankings.

Here is a link to someone who has too much time on his hands and ranks minor league hockey and baseball logos.

With his scoring system, the Aeros logo scored a negative 5 points. His scoring system is like golf, the lower the score the better the logo. The Aeros logo has been ranked 5th best overall.

during the milwaukee/houston game four, my mom and dad, my friend and i went on about how ugly the milwaukee logo was. My dad expected them to change the logo within 5 years. Then i see that and im like, " wow". I mean, what does a hockey playing skeleton have to do with "admirals", they could at least make it decent like peoria's. (Go Mitch Love!), with an actual person on it. I dont think that milwaukee was #1 at all.
