Nathan Smith, Craig Weller clear waivers; Ryznar, Lammers cut from Peoria, sent to Alaska

As expected, Nathan Smith (pictured right) and Craig Weller cleared waivers and can be sent to Houston at any time. Andy Hilbert, according to Russo, is pondering a two-way deal from the Wild, and will start the season with the Aeros if he chooses that option. Two of these three players will make the Aeros a lot better, offensively, in a heartbeat. And Weller is a decent PIM guy that could make Simon Ferguson expendable in the coming days. I hope they keep Ferguson, but in the end Weller is a guy that could get a call up for that role ... Ferguson is not.

I expect to get some news about Aeros cuts today, and there could be some surprises on that list. I will not, however, speculate or predict. Way too early to start that now.

On a side note, both Jason Ryznar and John Lammers were both cut from Peoria's training camp roster and sent to ECHL Alaska recently. Davis Payne, according to the Dave Eminian story, just ran out of roster spots. He was complimentary of them both.

Nice work, Fred.

It's being reported that Jesse Schultz has signed with Björklöven in the Swedish league as well.

I read somewhere also that Jesse Schultz was going to play in Sweden ... Ryznar is from Anchorage so going there may be an "ok" temporary move for him.

He has signed a 6 month "artist-contract". I remember quite a few guys first playing in Finland for a month or so in the beginning of the season and then going to Sweden on an artist-contract which you can only have for a short period. Means less taxes as an "artist".
Björklöven is a team with long traditions, currently playing on the 2nd highest level in Sweden.

Changing subject: Has anyone received their season tickets yet?

They are supposed to go out this week via Priority Mail.

Didn't Smith score all of six goals last season?

If that's helping the offense, how bad are they without him???

@FinnAir.. hmm, another similarity to 'opera singers' (contracts/visas)...works both ways tough! Europe/USA and USA/Europe.
